Hurricane Category 4 Hurricane Helene

Dramatic amounts - expect the 56.87 isn't accurate, but the ones around 20 inches probably are.

I'm sorry for all the damage and impacts of course, but for a weather nerd who took a couple days off work for this one, this has been an amazing event meteorologically. Just wow, even now.

How many miles is that cloud shield encompass roughly?

A lot - western border of Arkansas to upstate NY, and great lakes region to Montgomery, AL north to south, unless you count the bands still stretching to the keys.

western Arkansas to upstate New York-1,487.9 miles
Linwood, Michigan to Montgomery, AL-908.6 miles
Key West, FL to Springfield, MA-1,573.8 miles
Total coverage roughly puts it at 3,970.3 miles of the U.S. in this cloud shield.

Number of injuries from the Rocky Mount tornado is now unknown, with four of them being listed as critical.

edit: Latest update from Nash County now reports 15 injuries (no fatalities thankfully) and at least 14 buildings severely damaged. A witness reported seeing a wedge tornado that was possibly up to 3/4 mile wide, but we obviously won't know for sure until damage surveys take place.

"Cautionary" and "Dam failure imminent" are nowhere near the same thing.
Very true. Like saying a Tornado Watch and Tornado Warning in the same sentence.

Exactly. You cannot have a "Boy Who Cried Wolf" situation with a potential dam failure. That will kill more people in seconds than the strongest tornadoes.
