Winter Weather/Ice Storm Threat January 30 - February 3, 2023 - Ice Ice Baby

Ice totals at the end of the nam run along with the current radar at the end. With lots more frozen rain.

Big event incoming..? Screenshot_20230128-091357-488.pngScreenshot_20230128-091326-304.png

00z and 12z Canadian. Remaining consistent for the last 15 runs. Kinda creepy and interesting how consistent it's been.

This freezing rain chart is skewed a bit. Some of the freezing rain is out in the snowfall category because it's projected to be as sleet. But I'm not 100% that it'll be sleet...but it will be close.zr_acc-imp.us_ov.png

Glad we're out of the target area for this after the ice storm last year turned 95 into a parking lot all the way from DC to Fredericksburg. Might get our first snow of the season on Thursday or Saturday though. Getting through January with 0.0" of snow for the season is obviously concerning long-term but at least I'm getting some winter golf in.

Whens the last time around Memphis and west Tennessee has had around a inch of freezing rain?
From what I can find, Memphis saw around 2 inches of ice during the Great Storm of 1951. The other one is the 94 storm.

Freezing rain totals not as high on the 00z run. Thanks in part to models depicting the frozen precip as sleet. It'll be interesting to watch as we move forward

Freezing rain totals on 06z nam, talk about crippling ice totals for the Memphis area. Around .9 to a inch of ice will do a lot of damage. Screenshot_20230129-073603.png

Just like the Canadian model continues to show freezing rain further south and east than the majority of the Euro/GFS runs. Of course, the RDPS just goes out to 84 hours so it's just getting in range now. We'll see if it continues to show consistency in future runs. If the RDPS is correct though we're in for a doozy of an ice storm.
