...HIGH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT AND SUNDAY IN THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF THE MOUNTAINS...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a High Wind Warning above 3500 feet, which is in effect from
midnight tonight to 10 PM EDT Sunday.

* LOCATIONS...Higher elevations of the Southern Appalachians of
Western North Carolina and Northeast Georgia.

* HAZARDS...Very windy conditions.

* TIMING...From Midnight tonight to Sunday evening.

* WINDS...South 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds could blow down trees and power
lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SOUTHWESTERN JEFFERSON COUNTY
UNTIL 700 PM CDT...

At 629 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
North Johns, or near Bessemer, moving north at 45 mph.

Pea size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Southwestern Birmingham, Bessemer, Hueytown, Fairfield, Pleasant
Grove, Midfield, Adamsville, Brighton, Lipscomb, Sylvan Springs,
Mulga, Maytown, North Johns, Birmingham Fairgounds, Edgewater,
Ensley, Legion Field, Forestdale, Splash Adventure and Birmingham
Southern College.

Currently there are no active tornado warnings. I'm sure more will come later, but maybe things will settle down for a while.

Yep. I have been watching! I was just wondering if the thoughts for possible major tornadoes after midnight still held true.

It’s going to be interesting over the next couple hours for North Alabama. You have those storms racing north on what I’m assuming is the warm front? You also have that rain shield marching east across North Mississippi that would put the brakes on major severe weather. The good news is maybe the threat won’t last all night
