Those category 5 winds have been slowly working slower to the surface. Won’t take much to mix them down just 1000-2000 feet above the surface.

I saw people say they were going to ride it out because they made it through Rita. That mentality got 200+ killed on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and 1600 in Louisiana for Katrina.

As of 08/26/2020 16:00 CDT, water levels along the Gulf coast continue to remain elevated and measure between 0.9 and 4.5 feet above normal tide levels.

Below is a breakdown of water level observations above normal tide levels by region:

• Florida panhandle to Pilottown, LA including Lake Pontchartrain ... 1.0 to 2.5 feet.
• Grand Isle, LA to Freeport SPIP, Freeport Harbor, TX ... 1.7 to 4.5 feet.
• Sargent, TX to Port Isabel, TX ... 0.9 to 2.2 feet.

Of course, that's just for starters.
