Severe WX December 16-17 2019 Severe Weather Outbreak

We just watched what appeared to be the tornado in north alabama. We are in Mooresville looking north. Saw what appeared to be a rain wrapped tornado, lots or power flashes. I would say it passed north of the Polaris plant

Per James Spann, there appears to be significant damage near Town Creek and Courtland. People in the comments are saying there are several injuries and people trapped.

HRRR is on board with the idea of this become much more linear as it moves into Alabama.

Hello folks, I have been lurking with this event so far BUT I have seen these set ups many times and I am just of the mindset that as things drag on that the storms will grow linear. Of course there would always be a spin up threat with a QLCS but unless things get cranked up, I am just not feeling the super cell action here in North Central Alabama really. Even those storms in South Central MS just seem to be merging in together a bit into lines.

Confirmed large tornado northeast of Laurel. Looks like it passed north of the center of the city at least.

The damage in North Alabama was done by tornadoes embedded within a QLCS. Don’t think the tornado threat drops to zero and it’s magically all better because storm mode changes.

Agreed...those spin ups are bad because they can be fairly strong and hard to give advance notice over...so in ways they are trickier than the big discrete super cells because time is of the essence in a tornado and those spin ups often don't give one much prep time.
