Winter threat: 1/9-12/ 25

if we gave truth serum to those of us who experienced the blizzard of '93, i think most of us would say we prefer the event to go down exactly as it did... even with the power outages and infrastructure being crippled... over a cold rainy day.

bad weather is exciting.

but anyways, back on topic....
are any of those returns in mississippi reaching the ground yet? last i checked it was raining and 36 at pine bluff, arkansas... cloudy and 36 at memphis.

I spent the blizzard of 93 stuck in the hospital and my mother was stranded there with me. Even when I was ok to be discharged we couldn't leave. After a few days they started running out of food. My grandmother was at home alone with no power while my grandfather was at our potato building making sure my family's livelihood didn't freeze. Also watched on TV as the comedy club in Homewood burned due to the blizzard. You can give me a straight IV of truth serum. It will not and can not change my opinion that I hope I'm not alive if that ever happens in Alabama again.

Bham NWS says lower 30s Fri for Jeffco AL with Rain/Freezing Rain in the afternoon. So they don't seem as sure the temps will rise.

TWC just showed a map of <32 temps. The NW AL corner was purple then wasn't, meaning temps there rose the last 2-3 hrs.

This is the only thermometer I have with humidity. It’s outside but it must be wrong I guess. But both of them are at 28 degrees
I think that's your indoor humidity. If you look under the 16% you see a "house" & it reads that. But the print is tiny.

Model accuracy always increases closer to the event as the environment is sampled - literally there's less time for deviation from reality. So yes, but will the upper level low/trough being over land make a noticeable difference in downstream forecasting this? Not really. Entirely too many other variables. The robustness of it on satellite does give one the idea that it will be good for forcing cyclogenesis. Trough tilting west to east, even more so. The upper-level trough acts as a catalyst for a developing surface low in the GOM.

06z hrrr has a heavy band of precip just north of I 20. Waiting on the 12z to finish, it's currently rolling out. Should give central Alabama a idea of how things will look until about 6am Friday.

Bham airport 36/17 at 725.

0Z HRRR stays the course - Snow/Sleet onset, some freezing rain, and then rain for central AL.
