I am embarrassed that I used to consider this tornado a “ marginal “ EF5. The contextual damage is easily some of the most violent I have ever seen. Especially the tree damage. In particular, there is one image of tree damage around a lake north of Greensburg and it is honestly some of the most insane tree damage i’ve ever seen.
To be fair, finding photographs of the hardest hit areas is painstakingly difficult. Definitely one of the more poorly documented EF5’s in terms of documenting its most intense damage.
I love how long the Mayfield tornado’s path is compared to all of the other tornado’s.

Ashby-Dalton to me is the example of why tornado size and strength don't necessarily correlate. For a violently-rotating tornado, it was quite small (one of those "ropes" that people usually associate with photogenic but weak tornadoes). Honestly, I'd be tempted to run into it if I didn't know that I'd get a corn concussion and possibly ripped to shreds.
Is there a database for browsing the environment of past tornadoes, or did you log all of this data by hand using papers on each of those tornadoes? I can only find the SPC tornado environment database which doesn't seem to have an individual search (and stops after 2011).
I used to think it was only a mid to high-end EF4 but after seeing those pictures years later it certainly was a solid EF5.
Wow, that is a big list. I certainly think there have been at least an additional dozen or two tornadoes since the EF-SCALE was implemented that could have been rated EF5.

The Goldsby 2011 tornado that day swept away a large well-built 5,000 SQ FT Brick Mansion that should have been rated EF5. There was literally nothing left of the house except a bare concrete slab with ground scouring around the property. I looked up to see how much a 2 story 5,000 SQ foot brick house weighs. It is around 1,350,000 LBS. The oil derrick the El Reno 2011 tornado destroyed weighed 1,900,000 LBS. So based on this I wonder what the Goldsby and Chickasha tornado would have done to the oil derrick if it would have hit them at there peak strength. Quite frankly I don't believe the Goldsby and Chickasha tornado were not that far behind the El Reno 2011 tornado in intensity.
