I spent quite a while trying to track down the originals, and when I couldn't, I ended up forgetting about them. I'll probably put them in when I update the article eventually. Re: the Kane photos, that's the area the former Forest Ranger I interviewed was talking about:

Pretty disappointed I wasn't able to find any quality photos from there. The satellite imagery is pretty striking:

I suppose the Storm Data photos could be colorized, maybe?
Given the remote and rugged terrain of the area it's understandable there aren't any ground level photos of it; still, a shame.

Several additional photos I've found of Greensburg
The only pic I've seen when tornado got outside of the town. You can tell from the lake in upper left corner to know that this was north of Greensburg and near the end of its life.

Don't know a lot about it off-hand tbh, but I've got a few photos from the McPherson F4 that I think I randomly stumbled on while researching the 5/3/99 Haysville F4:

That first photo... wow. I'm sure some cleanup has occurred, but I have a feeling this tornado would be brought up in 'potential F5' discussions more often if information about it wasn't so scarce.

Looks to me that at least one tree in the very background of first pic was likely debarked though those shurbs in the front of pic was ok. Also some trees debarked in eighth pic. Yeah, definitely a violent tornado there.

It's hard to really glean much from it unfortunately because the structure immediately behind them is a two-car garage (which would blow away relatively easily) and you can't make out a whole lot about the house itself. Still would like to learn more about it at some point, although IIRC it was only a few miles long and only destroyed a handful of homes - probably not a lot of info to be found.

There was an aerial in color of forest damage from the Tionesta tornado along with a nearby microburst swath shown in a paper on microbursts available online.View attachment 17516
Interesting how there's two swaths of damage here, maybe it was a tornado/microburst combo? Seems to happen quite a bit with the tornadoes that level mass forested areas.

Grazulis probably had some informations on June 15, 1992 Kansas tornado outbreak but i don't have access to his Significant Tornadoes, 1992-1995 update book

If you look closely (particularly the small area visible between the man and woman standing in the foreground) you can make out anchor bolts on the foundation of the home itself. But yeah, definitely wish there was more information available about this tornado along with the Beloit F4; they seem to be completely overshadowed by the Chandler F5 from the same outbreak.

Is there any photo of the semi in the basement of the Clark home?
That's all I've got, but IIRC someone told me the museum in neighboring Galva has a bunch of photos. I was working on something else so I never followed up to see if they had them digitized/would be willing to do so though.

I know what they mean, but I choose to believe the mayor of Herman wheeled in a few kegs and had a total rager in his "underground apartment"(?) while his town was being torn apart.

I think there is a story about a retired soldier (if i remember correctly) whose home was hit by a F4 tornado in Herman on 1899 and then when he moved to Omaha, his new home was hit by a F4 tornado (again) in Omaha on 1913

I've been thinking about covering the 1913 outbreak eventually so I'll have to make a note of that. I'm fascinated by those kinds of stories - like the woman whose home was demolished (and I think husband was killed? been a long time since I wrote it) in the 1947 Woodward F5 and then she moved to Udall, KS where she was hit again by the 1955 F5.

I also talked to someone whose family property near Niles, OH was hit by both the 1947 F4 and 1985 F5. And of course there's the neighborhood in Moore (around May Ave & SW 149th IIRC?) that was hit by both F5s. It's rare enough to be impacted by one violent tornado, but getting hit by two is some seriously bad juju.

I think there was one guy in Moore, OK whose house was damaged by the 10/4/98 F2, the 5/3/99 F5, then destroyed by the 5/8/2003 F4. I don't know, but I hope he'd left town by 2013!

Probably some similar stories from Tanner, AL between the two Super Outbreaks as well since they were hit twice in about an hour in 1974 followed by being hit by the Hackleburg-Phil Campbell tornado in 2011.

I think at least one person in Wichita Falls had a home struck by the 1964 and 1979 tornadoes, but I'm not 100% sure.

Nice finds! Here’s some more photos from damage south and north of town.

These 3 are all taken just south of the elementary school where the highest concentration of EF5 damage took place.

Here’s some rather extreme tree and vegetation damage near the lake:

A bit random but some of these pics from Data of Kane and Niles-Wheatland I find incredible, and for whatever reason didn't wind up in Stormstalker's article:

Kane forest damage aerials. I wish there were color photos of these. You can just make out the direction the trees have been uprooted and rowed. About as complete a blowdown of forest as you're gonna get:

View attachment 17509

Damage from Wheatland, PA. This angle of Yourga Trucking reminds me of what Vilonia 2014 did to the Dollar General; more or less ripping the entire steel frame off the foundation and windrowing it into a pile of scarp. Also the scoured asphalt from the parking lots is crazy too:

Those Kane photos are incredible, I wouldn’t doubt in that rural area that it attained F5 intensity, honestly some of the most extreme forest/tree damage you’ll see. Tree damage lessened quite a bit as it entered the town itself but the tornado still caused F4 damage.
