i think that probably might be the case cause i remember watching mitch west weather and he was showing about a complex already moving through texas im guessing at the time he was recording and also another complex yesterday as well

Thanks. Yeah we had a couple big storms that produced a lot of spin ups this year. I think there have been at least a couple weak supercell tornadoes as well IIRC. A lot of the tornadoes we get up here are weaker, but we do get supercells and occasionally strong tornadoes, even well into the summer. August 2023 had a deadly EF2 that went down I-96 east of Lansing for example. It'll be interesting to see if it continues to be an active year around here, or if this spring was the peak and it quiets down from now on.

yeah your welcome but gotcha i saw that for the entire beginning of june we are at 63 tornadoes but yikes with that august tornado hopefully just spring peak season and things calm down not only in michigan but maybe the south east and southern plains and east coast etc

Speaking of Michigan, the hotel I stayed at in Mackinaw City at the very top of the lower peninsula had a designated severe weather shelter. I guess they do get enough severe weather in the summer when most of the tourists are there to have a tornado shelter.

Folks, how are we feeling about the 18th? The most recent gfs 00z run has a pretty significant ejection right over a summer cape bomb. The 00z is so far calling for the highest end on this one but it also shows up a little on the 12z and 18z runs.

My hearts full of grief, but Gary England also brought inspiration to my heart and many others in the weather community. Not only the select who shared his passion, but his drive to serve everyone, and to save lives will leave him with an outstanding legacy. Rest easy. I’ll always remember his voice when telling my friends and family to “take their tornado precautions.”

Reading Gary's book "Weathering the Storm: Tornadoes, Television and Turmoil" as a kid was a big influence on me getting into local TV news.
