I pinned this thread to the top as we are about to be in the year 2025. Monday’s MJO weekly update from the Climate Prediction Center states that the GEFS/ECMWF show the possibility of MJO amplification as it propagates closer to the Western Hemisphere weeks 3-4.

Looks like a potentially active start to the New Year, model runs taken verbatim. In either case, the overall setup is there for repeated storm systems with the potential for favorable moisture return.

Also 12z Euro is hinting at a shortwave around same timeframe, but keeps the warm sector down by the coast. Trough not very deep

Haha last night's Euro run showed a prolific snowstorm in the Deep South, so the global models are all over the place at the moment

A southern snow/ice event would make sense during the first two weeks of January given the pattern going forward

If you guys watched direct weather’s video it said that around Virginia we could get 20-30 inches of snow, which might not happen but the last time we had a storm like this was 2018.

CIPS and CSU are picking up some signals for severe. Really weak signal on CIPS, but it's there.
