Fantastic work! I would like to see something like this in other NE counties of Mississippi and NW Alabama. They seem to have been the target of many tornadoes.

A EF2 tornado hit east of Smithville, MS on April 13th, 2019 causing $500,000 in damages.
Fun fact: that tornado was recently given an unofficial EF4+ rating by a study (headed by Anthony Lyza) that found an area of extreme tree damage in a place the surveyors couldn't get to. The report even explicitly stated at the end that it could have quite possibly been an EF5.

That's the one I linked above last night.

At some point, I will. I have a lot of projects I'm working on. Atlantic Tropical PowerPoints (a powerpoint of each tropical system since 2001), a spreadsheet of all PDS Tornado/Severe Thunderstorm Watches from 2000 to current, and I plan on expanding the tropical powerpoints to include the Eastern Pacific, Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Southern Hemisphere. I absolutely enjoy looking back on historic weather/storms and finding linkages to current.

I chased in southwest Iowa on Sunday. The tornado potential began to look rather substantial on the models as of Saturday evening, prompting me to ask a coworker to swap her off days so she could cover for me on Monday (with my 3AM-noon shift, a workday chase with the target area 5+ hours from home requires me to have two days off; the day of to get to the target area, and the day after so I don't have to marathon straight back home and work on no sleep). Then of course come Sunday morning the tornado threat had kind of gone belly up due to some greater than expected atmospheric overturning by overnight convection in the Plains, leading to our familiar mixing issues and high LCLs. I went anyway, in retrospect I should have followed the storms that fired over I-80 east of Des Moines during the mid-afternoon (pretty much right on top of me as I was making a lunch/gas stop in Newton), as they ended up producing substantial severe weather and a spectacular mammatus display in eastern Iowa. However I assumed they would remain elevated behind outflow and continued on to my initial target of southwest Iowa where more storms were expected to fire near evening (being baited away from my initial target is what cost me Pilger in 2014 and Benkelman in 2021, resisting this temptation is what got me Keota this year).

After moseying from Indianola to Winterset to Greenfield, I targeted a little <40dbz blip that had appeared on radar near Brooks/Corning. Over the course of less than an hour it exploded into a mature severe thunderstorm, sporting a decent hook on radar, although as expected it always looked high-based and not a tornado threat. I caught a little bit of hail as I drove under the developing core of the storm and quickly turned around; there were later reports of tennis ball-sized hail south of Bridgewater with this storm. It proceeded to put on a spectacular lightning show as night fell and I followed it to near Creston well after dark, breaking off when I began to feel tired and the cell was getting absorbed into the cluster that had fired behind it. I tried to get a room in Osceola, but the motels there were full so I continued on to Newton, racing the storms up I-35 just beating the heaviest cores to I-80 in Des Moines. There was continued spectacular lightning all around me, but my GoPro's memory card was getting full and of course I managed to not be recording when a huge CG dropped right in front of my car.Sequence 01.00_00_21_21.Still001.jpgSequence 01.00_00_39_01.Still002.jpgSequence 01.00_01_26_02.Still003.jpgSequence 01.00_01_47_02.Still004.jpgGX010270.MP4.20_23_17_17.Still002.jpgGX010270.MP4.20_24_57_12.Still004.jpgSequence 01.00_06_32_24.Still006.jpgSequence 01.00_07_01_26.Still007.jpg

I look forward to seeing these projects, and thanks for sharing the other research.

It's been a decently active May for severe weather so far with >110 reports every day since the 5th. The really photogenic, top-notch chase tornadoes have been somewhat lacking, but of course they'll always be relatively rare since so much has to go right.

If yesterday's reports are anything to go by, Mother Nature saw your post yesterday morning and said, "Hold my beer!"

This is a few days old, but I don't think I've seen it shared here yet.

"Meanwhile...over the Mission Mountains in northwest Montana, a tornado occurred amongst the snow-capped peaks on May 9th. Tornadoes in the mountains are relatively rare, but this video again highlights and dispels the myths that areas are "protected" from tornadoes by geographic features such as mountains, rivers, valleys, or hills."

Seems awfully similar to the setup that spawned the Dallas, WV EF2 last year. Wouldn't be surprised if I come home from work tomorrow and see a significant tornado or two have come out of this.

Nothing severe lately but in Hayden, AL we have hit the monsoon season. Almost every afternoon for 5 days we have been poured on for an hour or so.

Ryan Hall yall is probably tickled pink since this is in his back yard. I wonder if he'll actually get out and chase this...or just stick to his show.
He is the carnival barker of severe weather threats. So dramatic. He has awesome gear though. I watched a youtube video tour of his studio. He has a totally separate house for his company.

I remember that season every year back in Mississippi. Every afternoon it would rain and then every evening you would have raindrops from the ceiling in the carport because the humidity was so high.
