Severe WX May 2019 Plains Severe Event

Looks like the tornado finally dissipated...after smashing the south side of Jefferson City. Something to note is that North of the river is much less dense than the south side of town, so it wouldn't be exaggeration to call this worst case scenario. That being said, I'm hoping that the weaker velocities were accurate and this tornado was only in the EF-1 to EF-2 range. If this was an EF-3 or higher this could rival Joplin. People are in their beds, not their safe shelters at this time of the night.

Google Maps traffic can be useful for confirmation in a situation like this. I believe Jefferson City likely has extensive damage. If fatalities are avoided it will be an absolute miracle

Hawthorne Apartments is an area of damage with entrapments. Capital City apartments at 531 East Elm Street as well.

City is requesting mutual aid from other agencies

Gas leaks, people trapped at collapsed apartments, many roads blocked... very bad situation

Mutual aid requested, seems like they are overwhelmed

By the way, so far Google maps traffic is matching up well with areas of damage.

From the addresses being called out, it seems clear that the tornado went through one of the most densely populated areas of time.

Hate to say it, but I don't think Jefferson City fire is able to handle this situation without some immediate help. They are overwhelmed.

Addl: Best Western hotel: roof removed. Injured female who is bleeding and also a possible amputation.

Calling in heavy equipment operators. Also calling in EMA and National Guard to get additional heavy equipment. Rubble needs to be removed to better access Hawthorne apartments. Rubble making travel and access difficult in multiple areas.

There's extensive damage, folks.

I want to go to sleep. I need to go to sleep...fat chance right now. It's moments like this that make me realize how fragile life can be and also reaffirms why I'm so passionate about tornadoes and weather in general.

These scanner feeds are like something straight out of a disaster film. This is BAD. Worst case scenario here. I have lost count of the injury reports.

The area from Jefferson City High school to Highway 50 to Madison Street sounds like it was hit hard.
