500 mph winds for very brief intervals has been simulated and is very likely to occur.

There are other references out there as well but this is the simplest.
Since that high of a windspeed would only last for such a short amount of time, could that still significantly increase the damage that a tornado is capable of causing or would it be too brief to have much of an additional impact?

I know we're dealing with a current major outbreak, but anyone else irked by the fact that NWS Jackson never upped the wind speed estimate for the Rolling Fork tornado? It's still at 170 MPH. I really don't think that damage was low-end EF4.

Yep, looks like Rolling Forked upped to 190mph. Not a surprise really, but goes to show this tornado was certainly very violent. Worth saying another great survey, I think some of the surveys in the last year or so have been very good, though maybe that’s just me.
They did their due diligence with this one. That's about as strong as it gets when it comes to modern tornadoes!!!

You can thank MEG for the lack of tornado emergencies for the New Wren and Smithville tornadoes. JAN was responsible for all the tornado emergencies in Mississippi that day.
I’m honestly shocked what was probably one of the most violent tornados in history did not have a TORE on it. Today I learned.

Of course, with MEG, it's like grinding teeth to even get them to mention a severe weather threat even more so with mentioning tornadoes/strong tornadoes threat.
Apparently, the 190 mph DI's were removed from the DAT. Don't know what's going on.

Either they didn't expect it to get out so widely (unlikely since the DAT is always widely scrutinized) or further analysis is underway, wouldn't be shocked if that was prelim and it's revised down as there hasn't been a PNS to officially update it afaik
