This is mayfield’s twin, it’s almost identical
Off Topic but I thought Wrangler was EF4....You don't know better than the BMX survey team, and that's a fact. Now can it...
You're right, it was. But people seem to think it was rated EF5 for some reason when it wasn't at all.Off Topic but I thought Wrangler was EF4....
ON TOPIC - good that MEG is coordinating with Jackson and Birmingham, hopefully that means we get actually proper ratings.
May be new wren that had the worst near Amory. From looking at ukef4 post above. You're right, it was. But people seem to think it was rated EF5 for some reason when it wasn't at all.
Also, I'm shocked that the Amory damage isn't worse. Based on the radar signature, I was thinking this was the most violent tornado of the night. Maybe it maxed out SW of town?
That is my theory... or maybe the core passed just north of the main town? Hopefully the damage Jeff and surveyors finds isn't too catastrophic. Given the radar signature it wouldn't be too surprising if a couple of homes to the SW had sustained Bremen type damage, though I am hoping that is not the case. You're right, it was. Best wishes to your family and everyone else in Amory. My elderly aunt was rescued last night from her home in Amory, which was pretty much a total loss. My brother got the search and rescue teams to help him break in the house and bring her out. It was a good thing they did because the house was full of gas from her leak. She is OK and staying with my brother in Fulton.
I can't talk to my mom but I messaged her through her phone and she is OK in Smithville. It just missed them, but they have no electricity. They have shut Amory down. You cannot get in or out of town unless you are a first responder.
I have a ton of friends in Amory that I'm trying to find out information on this morning so far most of them are OK. The damage photos across Mississippi are incredible.
Glad to hear that your aunt is safe. I hope all of your friends are okay as well. It may be just because the path length is pretty long, and more people means more surveying gets done before cleanup contaminates things.May be new wren that had the worst near Amory. From looking at ukef4 post above.
Maybe me talking out of my butt but with the meg office getting help from Jackson and Birmingham they maybe expecting very high ranking and want to make sure they get it right with help
Good post, yeah I've been trying to line up the radar imagery of last night. It seems right around the new wren and maybe east the couplet and debris ball were very extreme. It seemed to maybe have lessed once it moved into Amory. It may be just because the path length is pretty long, and more people means more surveying gets done before cleanup contaminates things.
The MEG survey team doesn't have the best reputation, and they don't seem to have much passion (for lack of a better word) when it comes to surveys, and have been known to miss critical damage points, rate waaaay too low, or even fail to survey miles and miles of track, leaving huuuuge gaps of unsurveyed damage. That's why it would surprise me if this was about "getting it right", because based on past surveys it seems like they just don't "care" that much. I'd say it has more to do with getting it done quickly and efficiently. I will say this, BMX has a good survey team, and JAN has an incredible survey team, so MEG will be in good company.
Hopefully we don't have a situation where some very high end damage occurs SW of town and they ignore it.It may be just because the path length is pretty long, and more people means more surveying gets done before cleanup contaminates things.

Fortunately not quite on the same level as Rolling Fork. Still concerned about areas further SW though.
I know people say JAN tends to overwarn, but I’m so glad we’re covered over them and not MEG like the county above us. I trust JAN a lot!It may be just because the path length is pretty long, and more people means more surveying gets done before cleanup contaminates things.
