February Discussion

Class was very informative and interesting. It only took 2 hrs and was well worth my time. I agree with you Lori, for no more time than it take and this could possibly help save a life, everyone should do it. Thank you for turning me on to the idea

Awesome! Thank you for sharing your experience. I'll definitely look into when FFC does another one and attend. Anytime I can learn in this field is a great experience and well worth the time investment.

Had snow on and off all day. Near white out at times with the wind. Unfortunately warm antecedent temps, the wind and occasional sun kept accumulations to a solid dusting but not bad. Better than I expected for sure.

29 this morning and 67 this afternoon. These temperature swings have been pretty wild the last few days.

68 today. Our average high is 42.

What. Is. Happening.

Back down to 34 now with winds gusting to 40-50, though. Highs in the 40's the next couple days will be nice. With any luck we'll swing a half inch of snow Wed morning.

Headed up your way to do some skiing with the family the weekend of the 23 - 26. Try to get me some snow flying, I saw where they were able to have "snowmaking in progress" this morning with a slight chance of some natural snow later today. How reliable is the Averyweather.com site. It is linked to the Sugar Mountain site so I am a little skeptical that it might be biased toward calling for snow to get people there. Thanks in advance for your reply.

They should be able to make overnight tonight but there's no chance of any natural snow outside Wednesday with the weak gulf low. Averyweather is just a subset of Ray's Weather which is the staple up here. He has a big following up here but I know he's had some busts this year. Still highly recommend him, though, he handles the little microclimates better than the NWS most of the time.

All of Alabama has finally been removed from extreme drought conditions...which should continue to improve given ample rain chances ahead.

Also, keep an eye on next week. A large scale system ejects from the Rockies east into the MS Valley. A cut off low east of Florida might hamper moisture return, but the Euro looks sufficient with 60 degree dews up to Nashville. Just something to keep an eye on....

The 12z GFS run showed return moisture not being so much as a problem compared to previous runs.

I'm starting to see hints of what's coming down the road and it doesn't look good. Spring 17" will be active, as well as the last of this month.
I agree, if we keep getting these troughs in a month or two then we're going to see good potential for some action.

Yeah...I think winter said goodbye on Jan 7th when we hit 10 degrees that morning and had about 3" of snow, a bit of sleet and 0.05" of ice. That was good enough for me though...some of it stuck around for almost 5 days. I guess it's time to get lawn care plans completed and check out the mower. Sigh =/
