Yeah I mean it's at 50 mph, nothing to sneeze at. It was more of a philosophical thought than a meteorological one.

There are a couple of areas in Portugal that have been experiencing some drought, so this may not be a bad thing as long as there's not too much wind damage.

Is Alpha much more than an MCV that happened to develop over the water? That water is pretty cold, and it's just SE of an upper level low. I get that it is labelled as sub-tropical and not tropical, but I'm not sure I agree with designating this with a storm name.

It has an eyewall like structure and banding consistent with a subtropical storm.

I mean I guess if we were going to start the Greek Alphabet, it was only fitting the first one of the bunch take on Europe. :) Hope everyone there is watching and paying attention.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. A broad area of low pressure could form over the western Caribbean
Sea in a few days.
Some slow development is possible late this week
while the system moves slowly west-northwestward over the
northwestern Caribbean.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.
