It is only protest worthy when Trump does it. I hate having to defend the guy as I truly detest the man, but he's getting the exact reactions he craves.
Thanks for those counts.
Prior to the 2024 election I had read on Instapundit criticism of Obama for abusing EOs and wondered how he measured up to the current POTUS.
But numbers aren't everything: content counts. I'd have to look up Obama's to see if the Instapundit criticism was valid, but as for Trump, I think people are scared now because he is grabbing powers that have never been wielded by the Executive Branch in peacetime and justifying authoritarian moves with "emergencies" that don't really exist (although national media coverage makes it hard to see that fact for everyone but the locals who can actually look out the window).
Contrast H. Bush's valid and VERY cautious deployment of the Guard during the Rodney King riots, which was big news at the time (the deployment) with Trump's LA deployments and accompanying vicious rhetoric this year.
(And with the Biden do-nothing/media "look the other way" approaches to the George Floyd riots. That
was disgusting.)
I'd agree with "only when Trump does it" for his first term, but not now.
This isn't the same Trump, as I've said before, and it really does feel like a soft coup. By kings in all but name: a group of businessmen -- nameless thus far but probably fairly well represented on Epstein's client list and/or pals of the UK's Prince Andrew (in the Nineties I read an article praising Andrew's connection with international businessmen; this, while Brother Charles was actually raking in the cash by being a businessman) -- running what historians may well label as Business Plot 2.0 (unless the kings $ucceed, in which case it will be either a "revolution" or the "saving of Old America" by establishment of an enforced New USA service economy in which most of us, from the southern tip of Patagonia to the northernmost tip of Canada or Greenland, whichever is closest to the pole, will be the servants, regardless of ethnic background).
And New USA will have an excellent relationship with Greater Russia, extending from Iceland and Northern Africa through Asia Minor to Kamchatka and as far south in central and eastern Asia as New China will tolerate.
No more war. No more population boom (they won't kill us off; they'll keep us divided and killing off each other). Utopia.
Not a dystopic-novel concept. i really think that's the end game, though it won't work and what will really happen is another Tower of Babel crash.
Sorry. Got carried away again. I'm trying not to do that, but I
see it -- instead of, hopefully, the "
cheat-the-prophet game" that younger people now are playing until the last Boomer is buried nicely -- and I can't help sounding off.
If those younger people are playing the game well, I won't ever see it. So I might as well just stop caring and just meditate and let it all go...which isn't a bad idea, actually.
