Apparently DDC missed another tornado warning tonight. Early reports were saying it was just a landspout but the videos and pictures I've seen thus far sure look like low end tornado damage.

Tomorrow looks like your average mid 10 % hatched Dixie Day. Not impressed at all by it. Bit surprised by the 10 hatched, thought a large 5% would suffice. I think the real tornado threat is out of the QLCS in MS rather than supercells in LA/West MS.

It being a landspout would be no excuse, since a landspout *is* a tornado by definition since it meets all the criteria (unlike, say, a 'gustnado'), although they are less likely to be strong/violent than mesocyclonic tornadoes. I don't recall there being anything in the NWS bylaws stating you can only warn for mesocyclonic tornadoes...

All kidding aside, a landspout IS a low-end tornado and is every bit as eligible for a Tornado Warning as a mesocyclonic one.
I think the word “landspout” sometimes gets misused as a “cover our butts” term to make missed warnings seem more excusable. The Montebello, CA EF1 last year was falsely slapped with the “landspout” label despite clearly being a mesocyclonic tornado spawned by a low topped supercell. Warning was missed on that one too. The 2015 Moore EF2 was “a mix of straight line winds and gustnadoes” until it was undeniable that a strong tornado had occurred. Missed warning as well.
After a while you start to see a bit of a pattern of diminutive/dismissive wording when it comes to damaging tornadoes that weren’t warned.

1300z = 8 AM CDT. However sometimes they get it done early (or more often, late on the big days when a lot of people are really anticipating it).

Zulu time is 6 hours ahead of CST and five hours ahead of CDT.
Scheduled Day 1 outlook times are:
0600Z = 1AM CDT (Valid starting 12Z or 7AM CDT)
1300Z = 8AM CDT
1630Z = 11:30AM CDT
2000Z = 3:00 PM CDT
0100Z = 8:00 PM CDT previous day

I'm guessing the SPC is doing the 10% hatched because of the intense low level shear.

Bc their is only cell on the HRRR that congeals in the line but just being careful in case it drops a tornado lol.
Man I'm not overly impressed by the looks. But watch this will be a huge producer because I say that.

It’s a classic “if we can get supercell(s) then there’s high end potential but it’s a big if” situation.
Well the trend on the HRRR makes it look a bit more plausible lol
