Significant Tornado Events

i don't have anything too say that hasn't already been posted here. unless i wanna get everyone talking about some random EF2 that removed the roof of a house on some random day in texas...i feel kinda useless here so i've just taken on the role of a casual conversationist

Great job! For the EF5 contour Northeast of Mayfield, the house was definitely sizeable but didn't see any ground level pic so I have no idea of its construction. One thing can note here was those shrubs in front of the house was seemingly intact.

This home in particular wasnt well built and had a lot of debris still on the foundation.
 
im kinda also here to find cool things. images i cant find anywhere else. awesome work other people share. the only work i've done for weather stuff is drawing hypothetical tornadoes and tornado outbreaks on google earth. most of it i haven't shared with anyone because there's no where to share it...so maybe if it's possible we could open up a hypothetical weather thread on this site?

Yeah I hit the ignore button for tornado_examiner too....a lot later then I should have, but doing that has saved me a ton of grief.
 
Also, holy crap this thread has hit 400 pages! Man, the old thread didn't even get to 200 pages (around 180 or so). Really impressed with how this thread has taken off since May of 2020. Y'all are awesome, let's keep it going and see if we can get it to 500 pages!
 
ignore me all you want. i'm still just as passionate about weather as the next guy. im trying to be better. you don't have too make me out as nothing but an a**hole. im not. i just get heated like anybody else does...im not perfect.

Just sucks there isn’t an archive of the previous thread, there were some hidden gems that kinda got lost.
 
After several weeks, the May 23, 2008 Tornado Outbreak map is finally complete! All 69 tornadoes that occurred in Kansas and Oklahoma that day. Initially I had planned on doing just the significant tornadoes however I had a slight change of plans...lol. Anyway this map includes some information on the tornadoes that day, mainly just the EF2+ however some notable EF1's have information as well, just click on each tornado for information! Each tornado is also labeled by which supercell they originated from and in order, for example 'J3' or 'H10'.

are these swaths of tornadoes all produced by the same cells?

The NWS can rate a tornado with whatever EF-Scale DI they want. If they find EF4 damage for instance but most of the damage was EF2, then they have the option to rate it as EF2.

Not wanting to add to any friction here, but this exactly is why I have said and continue to say there is a systemic problem with how NOAA rates tornadoes, and the problem needs to be fixed.

The historic method of rating tornadoes on the worst damage should be maintained, otherwise you can neither accurately compile data on tornadoes nor compare old to new. Science is not based on thoughts and opinions, but only provable facts, and there can be no justification of rating at a lower number than has been found and proven.

imagine the nws does this. "yes there's EF4 level damage but ehh we're just gonna rate this tornado as EF2 because there's more EF2 damage points than EF4 ones"

like come on now. thats just not even a little bit justified
