Significant Tornado Events

If I have time this weekend I can scan in the old 4/3/74 book (Boone) I posted photos from on the old site; I'm pretty sure that by 2021 it would be alright to share such an out of print publication with a few

Interesting quote in there involving the Winfield, KS F4 of the 1991 Plains Outbreak that spawned Andover and Red Rock (among others). Several storm chasers thought it was an F5. According to Grazulis one home was so thoroughly swept away that the survey teams likely missed it. This was a rumor attached to the Kellerville, TX tornado of 1995 but apparently it originates from something that happened with this tornado.

Check page 16 of the booklet for the information.

Really considering starting a petition to get Causarina Head banned from the site, or at least temporarily until he learns to think before he posts. Not sure of the logistics of all going about all that, but might as well voice what many of use are likely thinking.
Yeah i agree. Now i admit i was spreading some rumors, but after more research, i’ve learned my lesson. i now tell the truth. But maybe he/she will start posting truths now and not lies.

A certain you know who attributed this to the Kellerville, TX F4 and it’s still widely reported as such. Mentioned this earlier on. He’s done so much damage to the amateur tornado damage research community.

So is you-know-who on here the same person who made that attribution in 2007?

Fourteen years is a long time for something to stick around if true.

If you had to decide which was stronger brandenburg or Guin, which would you choose?

Based on documentation Brandenburg was more violent; that said my gut feeling is that Guin was more violent but it's poorly-documented in comparison it makes it hard to render a final judgment.

Brandenburg links:

1. Scroll down to me and buckeye's entries on this thread, some pretty impressive photos:

2. My post with more pics, note the tree debarking and grass/ground scouring in a couple:

3. NWS article on it:

4. A wonderful site on the 4/3/74 outbreak. Don Macy's photos are where I found many of the ones I posted, they are great.

FYI the 4/3/74 site doesn't have anything on Guin, or any of the nighttime Alabama tornadoes, sadly. That section of the outbreak as a whole wasn't all that well-documented until fairly recently.

Didnt the brandenburg tornado buckle or cave in basement walls juliett? Yeah my gut is like Guin was more violent. Brandenburg was FOR SURE more violent than Xenia and Tanner 2. Tanner 1 definitely deserves its recognition. Deep ground scouring, pump being lifted out, and the bathtub being embedded deeply into the ground, tanner 1 is definitely worth it’s F5 rating. in my opinion here’s my list of the most intense on that day

1: Brandenburg
2: Guin
3: Tanner 1
4: Xenia
5: Sayler Park
6: Tanner 1
7: Depauw indiana.

i do believe xenia was violent, but just not on brandenburg level.

Tanner 1 produced some pretty violent looking wind rowing and debris patterns as well.

Does anyone have any aerial Brandenburg tornado damage photos saved that they could post? Loco once posted some great color aerial shots from Brandenburg, but I can no longer find them. It's a shame too, since it was probably the most violent of the 1974 Super Outbreak tornadoes.
Just saw this following one of the links above. I dunno if anyone has since posted those photos again, but in case they haven't, I'll add them here. I took some screens on Google Earth from similar perspectives as a few of the aerial photos just as a rough point of comparison.
