The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Northwestern Itawamba County in northeastern Mississippi...
Central Lee County in northeastern Mississippi...
Southern Tishomingo County in northeastern Mississippi...
Southeastern Prentiss County in northeastern Mississippi...

* Until 1045 PM CDT.

* At 952 PM CDT, a confirmed large and destructive tornado was
observed over Tupelo, moving northeast at 45 mph.

TORNADO EMERGENCY for Tupelo. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS
SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW!

HAZARD...Deadly tornado.

SOURCE...Radar confirmed tornado.

IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris
may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile
homes will be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes,
businesses, and vehicles is likely and complete
destruction is possible.

* Locations impacted include...
Tupelo, Baldwyn, Verona, Tombigbee State Park, Tishomingo State
Park, Saltillo, Guntown, Belmont, Plantersville, Mantachie,
Tishomingo, Burton, Pratts Friendship, Sandy Springs, Marietta,
Golden, Paden, Thrasher, Dennis and Mooreville.

immediately!

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

To repeat, a large, extremely dangerous and potentially deadly
tornado is on the ground. To protect your life, TAKE COVER NOW! Move
to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid
windows. If in a mobile home, a vehicle or outdoors, move to the
closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

CC really noisy, velocity high but not super tight, hard to know for sure what's going on but definitely not the worst case scenario

Looks like velocity spiked right as it began moving through the northern part of town. Never a good sign, and that TDS is a pretty clear indication why.

What a terrible scenario for the people living in the Tupelo area.
