Severe Weather Threat 4/27-4/28

Hrrr is very bullish on north Mississippi soon.

If you live in north Mississippi/ south Tennessee i would prepare for a legit threat of potential long track strong/violent tornadoes
Yeah, I’m highly concerned here in southern middle Tennessee. I do believe we are going to get super cells that develop in Mississippi and tracking into Tennessee. The question is how far east will they go?

And if you're REALLY unlucky, they occur at the exact same time!
Yeah... and the thing is, I wasn't even trying to be funny in my original comment. There really is a major fault line (the New Madrid Seismic Zone) in that area with a 7-10% chance of generating a ≥M7 quake, or 28-46% chance of a ≥M6 quake in the next 50 years.

During the 1811-12 quakes, what is now Memphis experienced IX (Violent) shaking. Even a magnitude 6 is likely to expose Caruthersville to VIII (Severe) shaking. The fact there are many structures there that have preexisting damage (those that were damaged but not a total loss in the 2006 F3 tornado) is a very real concern, especially if the repairs were speedy or otherwise done improperly.

Anyhow, going a bit too far down this rabbit hole.

Huh. I actually had no idea about earthquakes in that area… the more you know.

Side note, special weather statement for the Cape Girardeau area, mentions rapid severe thunderstorm development possible soon.
Which would help to explain why so many storm chasers are flocking to that area.
