Severe WX Severe Threat 17-18 March 2021

I wish Hulu and YouTube TV had the weather channel.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves about the streaming explosion. If you're watching Hulu, Netflix, or the like, you don't get an EAS tone/crawl and/or a local meteorologist breaking in. That's why its so important to have multiple ways to receive warnings (wx radio, smartphone, etc).

The Google Doc in that thread should be editable for anyone who wants to add or edit to it. The ones in the Doc may not have been verified since the last postings last April when the pandemic was in a different place, but it would be a good idea to call shelter locations if a number is provided to double check requirements in light of the pandemic and to see if they are open.
I do not own the google document. However you can post in the forum and or suggest edits in the google document itself.

Yeah, I own the document so I believe I should’ve made it editable—just checked. I am using mobile so if others find themselves unable to access it please let me know.

Nice and cloudy here in the west Atlanta metro. Rain has stopped for now. Hopefully it stays cloudy; constant cloud cover saved our area from the worst of it during last year's Easter outbreak.

I’ve seen you reference this EF4 event before and I’m confused as to what you’re referring to? The only significant tornado to strike those towns in relatively recent memory was an EF2 in November of 2012.

Are you referring to the Beauregard/Smiths Station EF4?
Lee County tornado, yes. Sorry.....

Just a note - if you have satellite television like I do, or if your cable goes out, you can stream The Weather Channel on Roku or other streaming devices, and local stations should be streaming as well when they go to full on-air weather coverage. You can also pick up local TV stations over the air using a simple antenna. Heavy rain may cause some dropouts though.

On a similar topic, if you rely on broadcast or social media for warnings, I strongly recommend adding an additional warning source on your phone especially if you are driving or commuting today. As is often the case with potential outbreak scenarios, broadcast media can become overwhelmed with the frequency and duration of warnings and on a day like today minutes and seconds matter. Likewise, social media will be extremely active and it can be tough to filter for the most current information for your particular location.

Accordingly, I cannot recommend enough the following warning app for smartphones:

Send the link to your less weather aware friends, colleagues, and family. I'm sure there are other similar apps out there but I have been using the Weather Radio App for years and it has never let me down. I believe I initially found it due to a post on Alabamawx.com by James Spann.
