Severe WX March 23-25th, 2023

Per Lt. Detective Andy Long with Amory Police - in contact with NMSCAS and WTVA:
-houses damaged, trees down and businesses damaged -z
-damage is primarily North, West and downtown
-Some people are trapped but so far everyone is ok

Hard to know if these entrapment calls deeper into Amory are due to fallen trees or the tornado. The calls I'm hearing the most of are NW -- especially the western appendage which is A - K Avenue.

A positive sign is not really hearing reports of any serious injuries yet.
It can be a good sign, or they're could be such serious damage that it'll be really slow or almost very little reports.

With major tornadoes reports can be slow to come in even though you know a major tornado came through because of how bad the damage is

Judging by the field prioritizing of calls on scanner traffic, they aren't working through the EOC.

Agreed. They were trying to establish a command post at Piggly Wiggly about 15-20 minutes ago. Their mobility is so limited I'm not sure how centralized they can make things at the moment. As I'm sure you can tell they're beyond overwhelmed right now.

Recent traffic from what sounded like a higher ranking official discussed them trying to get better organized and distributed. Their 911 dispatch has been calling out calls fairly regularly but not really sure they're effectively dispatching anyone until they get their resources tied together a bit better. It's tragic and I feel terrible for the entire town.

Agreed. That's the bad thing about smaller and financially limited counties. They can't access better equipment or training to comply with national standards like NIMS/ICS. They'll get there, but it'll be harder than necessary. You also can only do so much with limited personnel.

It's gunna be a while before Amory finds any deceased people if they do; if the damage is that bad. I hope they're isn't any serious injuries out there

Luckily, they have an AETC award winning AFB fire department about 30 minutes away from Amory who are very qualified and have the equipment. I'm sure they've already made their way up there to help.
