BMX has taken their FAR to one of the lowest in the country after having one of the highest in the very early '10s, sometimes perhaps too conservative now but rarely is as egregious as FFC, the Greene one was a bit of a head scratcher tho

NWS Birmingham has been incredibly restrained on issuing tornado warnings for some of these suspicious spots today. Total 180 from how NWS Jackson handled them. Not saying either of them are wrong in how they’ve handled it, but it’s interesting to look at how different they can be.

I’ve heard BMX has really tried to reduce the false alarm ratio over the past few years. When they issue a tornado warning, you know it’s legit.

Based on my experience, I have a feeling bmx wasn't completely on-board with the tornado watch. A severe t'storm watch probably would have been adequate for central counties.

Max velocity is 40mph and that’s 5000 ft off the ground so no

Central Tuscaloosa County in west central Alabama...

* Until 745 PM CDT.

* At 658 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near University Mall, or near Holt, moving northeast at
45 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.
