Hurricane Ida

The new forecast has it reaching major status by tomorrow afternoon. This is really accelerating quickly.
 
Wonder if the NHC is going to borrow a page from their Laura playbook and use the term "unsurvivable storm surge" again. Given how bad things are looking right now I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Speaking of Laura, Ida's track is looking eerily similar to that storm and Last Island 1856.
 
My guess is the storm will start to undergo rapid intensification once the eye enters the Gulf and the wind shear calms down.

Talk about luck. Louisiana also happens to be in the one unfortunate spot where hurricanes love to make landfall despite the state taking up a fraction of the Gulf Coast...
