Hurricane Hurricane Beryl

All the while the EPAC has yet to have a single storm, with none looming either. Very crazy. Think we need to keep that supplemental names list handy in the ATL basin…

CAT 5 winds were confirmed with recent dropsonde, ~145+ kts.

Wow it sounds like the dropsonde was destroyed before it made it to the surface. I wonder if Beryl is even stronger than 160 mph…

If 145 knots is correct, that translates to 166 mph.

Certainly possible; will expect to see that go down as it moves west, with shear increasing.

Yeah by tomorrow it's going to run into an unfavorable environment but it still has a few more hours at least to flex its muscles. Thankfully it's going to be doing it over open ocean.

Beryl is the easternmost hurricane to form in the tropical Atlantic in June – 49.3°W, besting the mark set by the 1933 Trinidad hurricane58.9°W.[52][53] Additionally, it became the earliest Category 4 hurricane on record in the basin, surpassing the previous record set on July 8, 2005 by Hurricane Dennis,[52][54] and the strongest June hurricane as measured by wind speed, surpassing Hurricane Audrey of 1957.[55][56] It later became the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record, surpassing the record set on July 16, 2005 by Hurricane Emily, as well as also becoming the strongest July hurricane on record.[54][57][58] Beryl also became the first system on record to undergo rapid intensification in the Main Development Region of the Atlantic during the month of June

That's six records broken by Beryl, quite a feat with the season only just getting started.

I can’t believe it’s still strengthening. I know it’s going to hit a brick wall of shear soon but the fact that it just kept chugging without another ERC is wild to me.

Yeesh.
