YepSecond named storm a Cat 5. Insane. Going to be a long hurricane season.
CAT 5 winds were confirmed with recent dropsonde, ~145+ kts.
If 145 knots is correct, that translates to 166 mph.Wow it sounds like the dropsonde was destroyed before it made it to the surface. I wonder if Beryl is even stronger than 160 mph…
Certainly possible; will expect to see that go down as it moves west, with shear increasing.Wow it sounds like the dropsonde was destroyed before it made it to the surface. I wonder if Beryl is even stronger than 160 mph…

This is not going be your normal type hurricane season this year , I fear ….I can’t believe it’s still strengthening. I know it’s going to hit a brick wall of shear soon but the fact that it just kept chugging without another ERC is wild to me.
It looks like it's pushing the shear away to be honestThis should (<-key word) be a rather inhospitable day for Beryl. Watching the area of wind shear ahead of it closely. Not entirely sure it is a brick wall - has been receding/weakening in the last 24.

yesh. Shear is rather less impressive than modeled yesterday …. See what it doesThis should (<-key word) be a rather inhospitable day for Beryl. Watching the area of wind shear ahead of it closely. Not entirely sure it is a brick wall - has been receding/weakening in the last 24.
