Archive Former Major Hurricane Irma

FWIW, I-16 out of Savannah has begun contraflow operations. Ends at Dublin, just east of Macon.
 
Definite weakening overnight, the next 24 hours will be Irma's last window it re-strengthen as shear from the trough picks up and begins to eat away at the storm structure. Irma is looking a bit rough but those wind fields have enlarged appropriately.
 
There is a sort of a line of small front being thrown by hurricane Irma. Almost pushing it not pulling it. Is it unusual for a hurricane to throw storms away from itself then pull storms to itself?

Traffic coming through interstate 75 was insane yesterday. I noticed that SPC has tornado risk on Monday closer to the coast even though the remnants are moving right over the Atlanta area. Confusing.
 
What if this hurricane stays off shore the west coast of Florida and landfalls east of Panama city? Couldn't the impacts be even worst for areas like Atlanta? That would be a stronger hurricane that landfalls on the Fl Panhandle and would be headed straight north or NW. Couldn't Atlanta theoretically get some real wind from this storm if the storm is say a cat 3-5 at landfall east of Panama City? Just curious.
 
We live in Mobile (east of 65). I've been watching this storm since it's formation. I've seen all of the models that have continued to shift west. I'm supposed to have minor surgery this coming Wednesday. I've also got my best friend and her husband planning to come to Gulf Shores on Sunday. She's my major concern. What should I suggest to her?

I, personally, wouldn't be anywhere near the Gulf until Irma is done.

And Contraflow on I-16 has already ended because of the western track shift from Irma.

Yes ... I saw it happen to Mobile Bay, during .....I believe, Hurricane George. I could be wrong on the storm, but certainly saw it with my own eyes.

It took a couple of days, but the water all returned.
 
FOX 6 on their weather blog is now saying that peak wind gusts with the storm, mainly Monday and Monday night, include: Auburn 78 mph, Anniston 62 mph, Ft. Payne 52 mph, Birmingham 44 mph, and Montgomery 60 mph. Gusts will be higher on ridge tops, so if this track holds, this will be a significant event here in Alabama. Winds will be even higher in Georgia, with gusts near 80 mph from Macon to Atlanta.

I got a hold of a generator today. I don't know why but its been eating at me since Tuesday. Hopefully it is because I've been watching this to closely but the continued shifts west has me a bit concerned.

Hopefully just a over reaction and I can give it back without using it. Not like me to do that though.
