Parts of Fultondale experienced major damage from the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham tornado on April 27th (a bit further south than the one tonight), but the damage for Fultondale appears worse tonight.

The area of what might be some broad rotation with that storm will pass very close to Fultondale.

Not surprised at all on the Piedmont storm. Stepping outside now in East Calhoun County and the winds and temp have had that feel for the last hour.

The storm currently in Jefferson hasn’t been able to really get rotating yet, thankfully. I’m sure it is or will soon be hampering efforts in Fultondale and Center Point, though.

Hard to believe that 99% of Alabama wasn’t even in a marginal risk first thing this morning, and then we end up with what is probably an EF-3 tornado in the Birmingham metro.

I had a few weak spin-ups in the Tennessee Valley on my expectations list for today but this certainly wasn't. Perhaps it should have been though, given how many times we get dreadful nocturnal surprises here in tornado season.
