As far as winter weather goes, we don't get too much of that here (Big Bear is an ENTIRELY different story, on the other hand) but we usually see flurries every winter, and perhaps a bigger snowstorm every few years or so. Closest thing to a White Christmas we've ever had was the December 26, 2019 snowstorm... so close, yet so far away.

Even severe weather is somewhat unheard of here, but does happen. On October 15 I filmed a line of SVR-warned thunderstorms as the bulk of the line passed 10 miles or so to my northwest, a landspout tornado touched down in Menifee on October 8 (oh, if only I had known!) and of course there are plenty of historical events in the book.

On another note, never got around to posting about it until now but on September 1 we had yet another brush fire pop up... this time on one of our neighbor's properties. Too close for comfort!

In that regard, might not be a bad idea to get a dedicated thread going for wildfire events?

This ended up being a relatively tame fire season for much of California didn't it? Out here in northern Utah it was a tame fire season and until late in the year when the fires really got going up in Idaho/Oregon/Washington, we hardly had any smoke throughout the summer. Despite it being a hotter than normal summer for this area.

The big trough coming through currently that's going to lead to the severe weather in the SE this week is bringing quite a winter storm to the west. Fantastic storm for Sierra snowpack, and depending on where it tracks it could bring some really good snows to my area as well. With the right track I could pick up possibly up to a foot of snow on Monday at 4300', with considerably more up in the higher elevations. Subtle differences in track though could mean 2-3" here or 10-12".

I'm up to 11" for a season total here currently, with measurable snow on 5 days so far. 6", 3", 1", 0.5" and 0.5.

There was one fire that threatened some of my extended family's property in Big Bear in September... oh boy, even without the fire that was a stressful month for our entire family! But yeah, that aside there was really nothing to speak of; it definitely wasn't like 2021 when there were new fires popping up around our house seemingly every other day.

No measurable snow for us yet, but the most recent atmospheric river brought 6.5'' of rain to my area.

The storm Jacob mentioned will be moving into SoCal today; probably just rain for us, but with any luck perhaps the snow level will drop low enough early Monday morning to at least allow for some flurries. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Safe to say this storm lived up to expectations across the northern Utah region. Officially it snowed for 33.5 hours straight at the SLC airport, and it was about the same at my house. It was a light snow most of that time, with periodic harder bursts. I picked up about 3" of wet snow in the initial changeover Sunday night/Monday morning, then it snowed lightly off and on all the way through Wednesday morning. I picked up about 5" more during that period. Areas closer to the mountains picked up a foot or more during that time, and the ski resorts up high cleaned up. The ski resorts in the Cottonwood Canyons picked up around 50" as of yesterday evening.

One last shortwave rotated through last night, and we were forecast to get T-2" here, but picked up a little over 3" overnight of cold dry snow. That brings my storm total here to about 11", and 22" for the season.

Happy "White" New Year from here in Roy, Utah. Woke up to about an inch on the ground with it snowing at a good clip this morning. Looks like I'll end up with 4-6" per the official forecast. Only limiting thing may be temps are right at freezing currently, and may warm up a little this afternoon.

This was another good storm for the western US. Snow levels were quite high for much of the storm, but it brought a lot of rain to the valleys and heavy wet snow to many of the mountains.

We’ve had multiple storms in a row here in Utah that have brought unusually wet and heavy snow to the mountains. We are getting that Sierra Cement here instead of the typically light and fluffy snow.

Main resort I go to is Snowbasin, and they have 14” of snow overnight with almost 2” water equivalent. Nice 7:1 ratio.

Sundance down near Provo reported 20” overnight with about 3” of water equivalent.

Great for the drought and high elevation snowpack though.

Tonight’s forecast from this morning called for “20% chance of snow, with little to no accumulation”, and by this afternoon the forecast for tonight was “Mostly Cloudy”.

As I turn in for the night, it is currently snowing moderately with around 1” of snow already on the ground. May get another 1/2” to 1” in the next few hours.

We have a new Administrative Support assistant whose background is from AL, 2 new General Forecasters, one of whom is local and the other from OK, and a new Electronics Technician with a background in the Military.

So I think we will do quite well with our STS and TOR warnings in the future here given their experience on staff at KGSP now, and a hearty welcome to them!
