In the Eastern Pacific, Advisory #8 has been issued on Hurricane Blas, with the cone attached. It's currently a category-1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph with a minimum central pressure of 980 mb. According to the NHC discussion, Blas is well-organized with very cold cloud tops near the center and impressive outflow in all quadrants but the northeast. The NHC forecasts a peak of 85 knots, or 100 mph, which is a category 2 peak.

For now, this is normal during a La Niña. The basin will significantly calm down in August when the North Atlantic takes over.

There are tropical waves in the eastern Atlantic that stand a chance to develop further as they are behind the SAL plume and wind shear has been lessening across the basin.

TS Celia, in the Eastern Pacific, may be choking on dry air at the moment, but its waves are setting off the volcanologists' seismographs. :)

Yeah, I don’t know if you have seen it yet, but the NHC has marked an AOI in the MDR.

Yes, I noticed. The current environmental setup and models indicate we are more likely going to see development. This would be called Bonnie and we could see a formidable system by the time it reaches the Lesser Antilles.

Especially in the Caribbean, models have been keen on really strengthening this thing once it makes it into the eastern Caribbean, which is unusual for this time of year.

A tropical wave behind Invest 94L has the best chance to potentially impact the U.S.

PTC2 has struggled to become a named storm, however the system has a lot of thunderstorm activity this morning and is making a last ditch effort to become Bonnie before moving inland Costa Rica. The forecast shows this becoming a more powerful system on the Pacific side.

I don't know either, but I do know that if nit-picking details about when to name are more important to you than public safety then you're in the wrong business.
Being inland and fully across the state trying to have a 'chill' weekend I haven't been keeping up with anything so I totally missed this :(
