I would support an ACB/Candace Owens Ticket in 2024.

The AP and CNN has officially called PA for Biden, and with it the 46th president of the United States.

Speaking of predictions, my prediction (and I think yours also) 4 years ago that the Republicans would lose both houses and the presidency is looking iffy at this point.

Yeah it will likely all come down to the Georgia Senate races.

It should've been called days ago. If it had been Trump they would have called it. But they're worried about him going insane and melting down. He's going to do that regardless.

I simply feel a sense of relief. Things are not going to magically return to normal, but at least there's a chance now.

Congrats to Biden. I hope I'm wrong in what I expect.

I'm more worried about what Harris will do if/when she becomes President.

Harris is FAR from ideal. Definitely have no desire to see her occupy the White House, but let's see what she does as VP first before having any sense of panic. I remember how we were all warned that Obama was a Communist who would make Pol Pot blush and in the end his most devastating crime was wearing a tan suit.

Nonetheless, we've had a fit-throwing toddler with pathological narcissism in the White House for the past 4 years so my "concern" meter has been re-calibrated. Kamala Harris would have to be truly awful for it to even register.

I'm far more worried about poor policy that will directly affect me and my family/friends than throwing a fit on twitter. With that said, I won't miss Trump's childish actions a bit. I've always maintained here I'm no fan of him.

We won't agree on this, and that's fine. Like I said I hope I'm wrong. My biggest concerns are the left's energy policy and how they'll handle COVID. Seeing how the left vs right has handled COVID was actually one of my main drivers to voting Trump again. I know that won't be the popular opinion on here.

I have to ask what you think is succesful about his handling (or lack of handling) of Covid. Things seem to be only getting worse.

I don't think he's been particularly successful, but no western country has. It's a virus, a particularly contagious one, and there's only so much you can do before the cure becomes more costly than the disease. I'd rather take my chances with zero government intervention going forward than what countries in Europe are currently doing and what certain Democrat governors are pushing.

One of the reasons I mentioned DeSantis earlier in this thread is because of the amount of leadership he's showed during COVID and not bowing to external pressures.

Thanks. I don’t think Europe has done well either. But I would rather be like Canada or Taiwan than us. I don’t think we should give up.
I want to see intense contact tracing, mandatory quarantine for those infected or exposed, and care packages for those quarantined.

If this virus was anywhere near as deadly as we originally thought it was, I would agree.

We are at almost a quarter million dead and it’s getting worse. It is completely unacceptable to just let it go. This is 80 9/11s
As it is right now, our hospital systems are becoming stressed again. Our economy can not recover fully until we defeat this thing.

If the US had handled this well up to this point, what do you think that number would currently sit at?

Okay, I'm just jumping in here and will jump out again, so please don't get mad, but in all my years of voting I have never seen a media call so widely accepted as fact before.

Wait for the official count, people.

Deweytruman12.jpg

And if it's in, though not yet mentioned in any story I've read, best wishes to the winning team, whoever it is.

Personally, as a disclaimer, I sat this one out and read old Mike Royko columns from the 80s (both Trump and Biden were in the news then and young enough to deserve it).

<rant>When do the younger people get their chance? Seems to me that world history hasn't been too kind on countries with an old, look-to-the past ruling class. What about today, which we old geezers don't have to care about any more?</rant>

K, thnx, back to science blogging now. :)

Edit: Facebook is doing it right -- they call the results "projected."

Anyway, given the high emotions in many people (at least on Twitter) and the unusual pandemic circumstances, not to mention the popular vote being almost 50/50, the FEC is going to be very thorough in certifying these results.

And we may have to wait for legal challenges to play out: the current president, I think, has sufficient personal resources to draw on, if he chooses to and public funds aren't available.

In any event, I've subscribed to the FEC news mailings: https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/USFEC/subscriber/new

That will tell me when the wonderful fat lady has sung, not some news anchor or headline writer.
