BamaTracker reporting 1488 hospitalizations today, down from just over 1600 a few days ago. Will have to see if it is a data glitch or if we are past peak.

More good news for AL, there's been a big decrease in ER visits for CLI symptoms since a peak on July 12

This is a good link from the CDC that lets you select this data for each state

Appears to have been a glitch, the number has since changed to 1559 for August 1st.

The trend over the last few days however is still good. 1642 -> 1596 -> 1559 -> 1529 -> 1517

Hopefully Alabama follows Arizona's pattern. They stayed near their peak for hospitalizations for about 8 days before starting to see a steady drop. They've gone from 3466 COVID inpatients on July 16th to 1879 inpatients as of yesterday.

Alabama has been near its peak for over a week now. Steady between 1550-1600 inpatients (they keep updating the numbers, so my previous values a couple posts up are no longer valid). Hopefully we start seeing that same steady decline soon.

Quick data point. My wife tested negative for COVID -- she was tested on Monday and the results came in Thursday afternoon.

I was swabbed for a rapid PCR COVID test yesterday. Negative. They also did a blood draw for a rapid antibody test. Also negative. No current or past signs of COVID infection.

My son tested positive for strep this afternoon. Shortly thereafter, his sister became feverish. Gigantic, red, and swollen tonsils. So, both have strep.

I've been sick since Monday and don't feel even 1% better. The fatigue is just crushing. Doctor thinks it is likely some other virus. My wife has also been sick since Monday, but with a much worse headache and actual vomiting whereas I've had nausea, body aches, and severe fatigue.

Oh, meant to mention, even though my son tested positive for bacterial strep, the Pediatrician who saw him (at a Pediatric Urgent Care) said he likely also has a concurrent infection by some type of virus. His usual Pediatrician concurred in that assessment based off of the symptoms, test results, etc (original Ped is who sent us to Pediatric Urgent Care as our Ped closes early on Friday). Because of that, he was also swabbed for COVID. We should receive the results sometime next week.

All in all, I'm thrilled none of us have tested positive for COVID. Looking forward to all of us being well again.

Interesting thread. I suggest y’all give it a read.

I don’t know much about epidemiology but a lot of his sources are peer reviewed medical journals.

I hope he is right. The problems I have with what he is saying is that the media isn’t covering it. That’s false. Also, he is presenting a hypothesis, that if incorrect, would have dire consequences. Until he is proven correct, social distancing is the answer.

I didn't see a single mention of social distancing in this twitter thread. Can you point it out?

Also, as someone with a scientific, but not a medical background, there is no such thing as being proven correct in science. There is evidence to support your hypothesis but nothing is ever 100%. I think he has decently sourced evidence (through the scientific literature) to support what he’s saying in his case.

I never said he mentioned social distancing. I’m saying his idea doesn’t have enough support, so Ibthink we have to social distance.
His data is decently sourced, we are just so early on in this fight that we don’t have a lot of good data.

It is safe to say now Alabama is past-peak, along with all the other southern states. The ADPH's data is terrible compared to other states, but we should start seeing a steady slide in hospitalization data.

The 7 and 14 day averages of cases continue in a downward trend which is good. With schools starting and Labor Day just around the corner let’s just hope we can keep that downward trajectory.

0.83% positivity rate for COVID among 30,000+ UA students. Thats really low and great news. Number of hospitalizations related to COVID have declined in the DCH system as well....students have been moving back in the last 10 days. The next 1-2 weeks will tell a lot as it seems everything lags 2-3 weeks.

I believe 2 weeks after Labor Day will be the most telling. If a college campus can survive a holiday, that’s a good sign.

Huntsville Hospital's System is seeing the large drop in hospitalizations now. I don't have data from around Birmingham or Montgomery, but I suspect they are following the same pattern.
