This would make a pretty great analysis to expand on - considering factors like the intensity and geographical spread of each snow event, or the total snow cover in the region for the ENSO period, etc.
When I get time, I'll see if I can find some snow cover maps for those timeframes.

4-5” in my backyard this morning, first real snow of the winter. My area probably gets about the least in the area, I’d bet some of the neighborhoods up closer to the mountains and a few hundred feet higher in elevation are in the 7-10” range.

Lined up for 6-12" this week and then some Arctic air with highs in the single digits for a few days. Doubt I will be leaving the house all next weekend

Overnight lows here going to be in the low to mid 30s for a while, definitely cold enough for snow but sadly no precipitation in the forecast for a while... but hey, a weather weenie can dream.

Things are starting to look "interesting " next Monday(ish) January 16th for Tennessee, N Ga, N Al, and N Mississippi.

Yeah. Both Tupelo and Smithville could be seeing the coldest low temperatures in January since 2018.

So did some temperature research in anticipation of the cold arctic blast early next week.

For Tupelo, MS: last January low temperature of 10 or less: 16th-17th, 2018. Last January high temperature of 20 or less: 20th, 1985. Last January low temperature below zero or less: 20th-21st, 1985. Last January high temperature of 30 or less: 17th, 2018.

For Aberdeen, MS: Last January low temperature of 10 or less: 17th-19th, 2018. Last January high temperature of 20 or less: 11th, 1962. Last January low temperature below zero or less: 30th, 1966. Last January high temperature of 30 or less: 17th-18th, 2018.

Monday is going to be interesting in North/Central Alabama if it all comes together like it looks right now.

Sniff sniff.

Also - this would be a great week to winterize one's house. I'm just saying.

GFS showing a nice swath of snow Tuesday for central alabama.

Expected the nam to with it's cold bias but refreshing to have a global show something

Whatever snow that does fall could stick around for awhile in North Alabama. Projected temps could be over estimated if a snow pack exists. Not looking forward to the single digits.
That's what I've been emphasizing on in my weather texts to my subscribers the last few days. That the forecast models may not be handling how cold it gets very well.

Just ordered me chains there coming in tommorow. My wife has been having issues with her epilepsy lately and we've taken a few trips to the E.R. in the last half year. Don't want to get trapped if we do, so this was the best option if we have ice

Wishing her the best!
