Severe Weather Threat - June 17th-18th, 2023

Kansas, South Dakota, and Oklahoma have had no tornadoes this month while Mississippi has had 1. Based on the preliminary June severe weather reports as of June 12th.
 
FYI the only two June Tornado Watches for North MS since 1997 were on June 2nd, 2003 and again on June 9th, 2014.
 
SPC MESO:
.......As the vorticity max moves east-southeastward,
additional convective initiation is expected from east-central
Arkansas eastward across northwest Mississippi. The moderate
instability, strong deep-layer shear and strengthening low-level
shear will make supercell development possible later this evening.
Large hail and wind damage will initially be possible, but an
tornado threat may also eventually develop especially across
northern Mississippi.

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Southeastern St. Tammany Parish in southeastern Louisiana...

* Until 700 PM CDT.

* At 619 PM CDT, a confirmed waterspout was located just offshore
near Lake Catherine, or 8 miles south of Slidell, moving northeast
at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Weather spotters confirmed waterspout moving onshore.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This tornado will remain over mainly rural areas of southeastern
St. Tammany Parish.

This includes Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 262 and
263.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

Boy, with that louisiana storm spinning up that quick, it warrants a greater concern as to what may happen this evening.

Me too! It’s beautiful outside here in North MS right now after storms this morning. Storms are to our west though, and we were just put under a tornado watch until 1 AM.

Some rapid initiation west of Jackson. Those cells will probably be the ones to watch for the next few hours.
