Ok, I know it isn't a big thing at this moment but I feel we are worthy of being tossed a bone after these upcoming events Wednesday/Saturday. I haven't had time to delve into it but Birmingham mentioned the possibility at least in their AM discussion. From their discussion...

Note: Medium-range guidance suggests the departure of this system
will bring a very noticeable drop in temperatures and moisture
behind a cold front. Sunday night could be quite cold for many
places. However, the evolution of this system varies amongst
medium range models. Some suggest an open wave scenario, some
suggest a lagging closed system into Sunday afternoon. These
closed low/slower solutions open the door to a brief transition to
light wintry precipitation Sunday night. I am leaning toward a
quicker, drier forecast ("cold air chasing rain") at this time.
If we are lucky enough to see snow, the antecedent warm
temperatures suggest no accumulation, and thus no impacts, would
occur.

Anybody have any takes on this perhaps?

Is there an overall Winter 2021-2 thread? I couldn't find 1 thru the search.

Starting to look like a dusting in the valley areas and maybe an inch in the surrounding ridges and mountains around the Chattanooga area. I guess it's possible to get an inch or 2 if you get under a deformation band but I would think it would have to be extremely heavy snow with crashing temps to get the ground cooled quick enough for any snow to accumulate over 1" for the simple facts that it's 77* at my house.

Good luck to everyone wanting some measurable snow!

It's supposed to snow here overnight, maybe up to 3". We didn't get measurable snowfall last year and barely got any the year before, so this would be our first proper snow in...almost three years. Can't say I've missed it.

Brad Travis who was kinda meh on the snow is even saying 1-2 inches possible on the grass tonight. Ground too warm probably for it to stick for long. Still fun to see some snow.

New ABC 33/40 post says 2-4 inches in North Alabama?
Yeah I don’t doubt it at this point. The models have been doing the complete opposite of what we are used to and throwing us a big bone so far. One was showing a tongue of 2” per hour rates in a band from Huntsville to Birmingham on a north to south axis about 30 miles wide or so but the main message looks to be that we are trending better and better as the runs on most all the models come together, even on the high res ones which really bodes well.

A decent sized cold side of the storm up in NW MS and W TN. I've definitely seen worse setups. 1641153888324.png

I hope the GFS and European are correct for the MD/VA region, I am definitely not rooting against the larger accumulations. But whatever comes is better than the past 3 years here.

I dunno Bliz... it's Alabama, I usually get drizzle in the ol Snownose these days, so my expectations are low and my hopes high.

With that said, this one does seem to have some potential, if we can get the cold air to dump in here fast enough.
