Look's like nothing but freezing rain for me in Gardendale

I think the vast majority of Alabamians are going to be disappointed with it mostly being ice and not snow.

The 12z HREF is slowly coming in now and is showing a significant uptick in the amount of freezing rain around the Birmingham area. I'll update with more metrics as the HREF comes in.

Hrrr legit wants to put .10+ of freezing rain for most of central and north Alabama

Here's the 12z HREF. I'll post the mean/average freezing rain and also the max, so you get an idea of the reasonable worst case.




And the max:



Notice the max ("reasonable worst case scenario") has much of the BMX metro in 0.1 - 0.25 in of ice, and there's even an area up near Chattanooga with over half an inch. Yuck!

Yeah, that's nasty stuff. Let's hope that falls as sleet or snow instead, but I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about this.

My house is atleast a .10 inch and worst case scenario .25- .50

everything is starting to get covered in sleet in my yard in south Huntsville. Hopefully some evaporative cooling is taking place and it’s about to turn to snow? Once it turns it should accumulate pretty quick.

What's the freezing rain criteria for a winter storm warning? Aren't we getting close to that for blount county and the next row down from the current winter storm warning counties.
