On July 30, 1978, an F2 tornado occurred 50 miles NW of the city of Yellowknife. The tornado destroyed a steel transmission tower though some sources say it also damaged weakly-built buildings. Some sources also say that eyewitnesses reported seeing a mile-wide wedge tornado but I don't think these are genuine accounts. Something unusual about this tornado is the environment it occurred in, it is not conducive for tornadoes at all.
