On July 30, 1978, an F2 tornado occurred 50 miles NW of the city of Yellowknife. The tornado destroyed a steel transmission tower though some sources say it also damaged weakly-built buildings. Some sources also say that eyewitnesses reported seeing a mile-wide wedge tornado but I don't think these are genuine accounts. Something unusual about this tornado is the environment it occurred in, it is not conducive for tornadoes at all.

Surface Data from 22z 7/30/1978

SBCAPE and 0-6 km shear (kt) - maximum SBCAPE is 496 J/kg - data from ERA5 Reanalysis

Surface Analysis at 0z

Modified sounding to reflect surface conditions near Yellowknife at 22z
I'm trying to get an upper air plot of the region at 0z but Plymouth Weather is down right now.
