(Super) El Niño 2026-27

So,,? Whatbdo this record Elnino mean for the Midwest? This coming week. Another heat wave for the Midwest. West is celebrating heat is moving east. Unfortunately rain along a stationary front once thought to be close. Is going to be shunted much farther north. Some say it lasts for two weeks. Worst heatwave of the Summer!!

Given how winters typically perform during very strong El Niños, I’m fairly confident that the Midwest will get a very mild winter this year, perhaps more fall-like. The 1997-98 and 2015-16 winters were well above average in terms of temperature for the area. I’m interested to see if we get any severe weather out of it, assuming the winter does end up being very warm.

Yeah strong El Nino but far from the record breaking strongest ever Mega Godzilla type everyone and their cousin has been hyping about. CPC uses the CFSV2 bias corrected ENSO. The latest keeps it below 2.5
It certainly seems to have plateau'd quite strongly, according to the Nino 3.4 temps graph that was posted earlier in the thread. I'd say this Nino is amongst the strongest in modern times already, but it likely won't reach the +2.8 C monster that 1877 likely reached. I'm guessing it'll remain comparable to the 1982-83, 1997-98, and 2015-16 events by the end of it.

NOAA today currently toy posted it 2.7 already above on the 3.4 regions at least …. Going be interesting before it peaks Time will tell

I’m pretty sure the average in the Nino 3.4 is floating around +2.19 C as of today, which is lower than it was a week ago by a solid amount - but it has been fluctuating and it did do this before its last big jump. I’m becoming more trusting of the models hitting the brakes on this thing in the coming months though, it can only go so far.
