Winter WX Snow Threat on Tuesday (Jan 16, 2018)

I saw a note from HUN today that stated that according to their records, on this day last year we were in the mid 70's. A testament to how crazy southeastern weather systems are.

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Birmingham AL
145 PM CST Mon Jan 15 2018

...SNOW MAY BRING SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS TO MUCH OF CENTRAL ALABAMA
TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING...

.An Arctic cold front will enter Northwest Alabama Tuesday
morning and move southeastward across Central Alabama Tuesday
afternoon into Tuesday night. This front should have enough
moisture and lift to generate a band of light to moderate snow,
which could potentially affect all of our forecast area. We will
need to watch and see if a second band can develop across the
southern third of the area during the evening and provide a higher
total down there as well. Though snowfall amounts are expected to
remain less than 2 inches, impacts to travel could be significant
due to temperatures falling into the 20s as the snow occurs.

Redstone Arsenal just closed for tomorrow.

It looks like where I am located near Baltimore might get 1 to 2 inches of snow from this system. You can tell the snow is not a big deal in Maryland because I went to the grocery store tonight and there was plenty of bread and milk available.

I think two things are going on to our north. The front is moving a little slower and forecast models are probably underplaying the dynamics and lift in the cold temps aloft. Yes, that could mean for us...but the front could actually move through quicker here as the trough pivots.
