Just watched Eric Burke from WAFF do his facebook update. A few interesting points for N. Alabama. The chance of precip is up to 40% according to their forecast and he threw in these tid-bits as well.

He mentioned that kids could be out to Thursday due to the extreme cold after the snow falls. (Don't think I've ever heard anyone forecast schools being closed like this)

Model comparison and an idea of their confidence level in the model outputs

Expect some surprises. The temps are the real player here. Ain't gonna take much to cause problems. These things squeeze out every bit of moisture possible. Do wonder how much will evaporate in saturating the column before reaching the ground though. It's dry.....

I'm trying to catch up and remain somewhat confused by the differences in the forecast ....at least what they are saying on TV.

Some are calling it a non-event, some are saying to stay home if at all possible.

I don't think anyone is predicting more than an inch or so. The real issue here is that it will not take much to create havoc on the roads.
But calling is a non event is dangerous in that sense. God knows we don't need a repeat of Snowjam or Snowpocalypse.

I think I'll Work from Home tomorrow. I remember that 8 1/2 hour commute from back during Snowmageddon. Don't want to deal with that again. Plus I have no 4WD now.

Morning phone call with emergency managers should be wrapping up for NWS Birmingham. Should be interested to see what closures get announced shortly after.
