Just reminding yall that there was genuinely little good justification why this tornado wasn't rated EF5; there was areas of damage that just didn't get surveyed
Not to mention; this thing had EASILY the fastest rate of intensification on radar ive ever analyzed. From a weak, just planted tornado, to a monster debris ball in two scans; from the first scan of tornado touch down, to a debris ball five minutes later.

here is a detailed map of most of the tornado from the roland part to the end of its life, along with the EF5 candidate spots.
note EF5 candidate spots are pretty much swept clean + Possible EF5 contextual, some of the EF5 candidates spots are not well built homes so don't expect them to all be qualified for a EF5 rating.

I did more research on the 1925 Tri-State Tornado, and it looks like the other 2 unidentified victims in the Biehle area were at the Biehle Church, so if anyone can identify them that will be helpful.

Rural West Texas and Central Texas sure have had their share of extreme tornadoes. Jarrell, Loyal Valley and Bakersfield are the most extreme I can recall. However, the 2024 Sterling City, TX tornado might need a name on that list. Started out fairly weak and kept intensifying. However, it was in a completely rural area at its maximum intensity. At a weaker stage the tornado flipped over an oil jack. I am not sure what this indicates. I imagine the oil jack had some anchoring? I have read they can weigh anywhere from 12,000 pounds to 20,000 pounds.
However, at maximum intensity it produced some pretty unreal ground and tree damage. I will let the photos speak for themselves. The photo of the storm was at 4pm in the afternoon. The complete blackness was due to the shear height of the storm which was over 60,000 feet tall. Here is the NOAA analysis of the tornado at peak intensity. In the photos it is hard to see if the tree stumps are debarked because they appear to be incased in mud?
NWS rated this EF3 140MPH. They said “300 yard wide field scoured out, grass stripped up, trees snapped, debarked and sandblasted, and tons of dirt redistributed everywhere”.
As the tornado approached and crossed Highway 163, the tornado continued to intensify damaging several utility poles along the highway and then moving across a deer lease off Private Road 128, east of Highway 163. The tornado completely stripped the rocks, the grass, the top soil, and the caliche roads on the property. Only the stubs of the trunks of the trees remained on the property. The estimated peak wind of the tornado was 140 mph.

Does anyone happen to know how costly the Mayfield tornado actually was? I was scrolling through a website that had all the costliest tornadoes on it and honestly expected Mayfield to be up there, but was shocked to see it actually doesn’t have an official cost yet.

I’m unsure of the exact value, as it hasn’t been finalized yet, but the lowest estimates I’ve heard floating around were about two billion and the highest was ~3.5 billion.
