Severe Weather 2026

Absolutely nobody could've prepared for this. There was a very low chance for any tornado, let alone a strong one, and it struck a VERY heavily populated area at noon with only a couple of minutes of lead time. This is going to be a disaster.
and based on the tower cam video they showed on WBAY, it was probably totally rain-wrapped. you basically couldn't see anything except water from their camera.

I mean we'll see what the impact is when this clears out. It could be one of those situations where it looks much worse on radar than in reality, but given how close it was to the radar site I'm not very confident of that. Hopefully everyone involved is OK

Seems like the tornado is done for now - take my opinion with a grain of salt, but feels like it happened off a very weird interaction between two storms which is unlikely to restart. Probably why the NWS is going with 125mph peak probable intensity for the next couple hours

Agreed that nobody living within the area could’ve prepared for this.

But there definitely wasn’t a low chance of a tornado, the kinematics these cells are in is actually pretty volatile. STP are as high as 6.
7000+ cape and SRH values of 200-300 are present. Vertical wind profile also is very supportive for tornadoes, other than the very weak LLJ.

The supercell in question had a convergence signature for the past hour before it produced, I was watching and wondering as to why the SPC hadn’t issued a tornado warning until after it was already down, but yea, the situation does not sound good so far.
