Severe Weather 2025

If I remember correctly we had some 2011 comparisons flying around going into this spring.

2006 also got thrown around a lot as an analog, and I think that was actually pretty good. Active mid-March through early April particularly in the mid-MS Valley, quieter late April into May although it seemed to me mid-late May and especially June were a good bit more active than that year. Although it has still been pretty quiet here in the Midwest east of the Mississippi River, today notwithstanding.

im curious to know what everybody thinks of what the exact analog that everybody was throwing around this year yeah there was so many of them but as something that would be a maybe recap thankfully now that spring severe and peak season is over with or would that be an unknown type thing i see 2006 from cheeselandskies i saw convective chronicles said 1996

The thing about Spring that I believe kept it from being as bad as it could have been particularly in April was the storm systems moving through so fast. There wasn't enough spacing in between. As the jet moved further north as @CheeselandSkies mentioned, everything slowed down and you were able to focus more energy so to speak. As Fred and Matt mentioned, the background atmospheric state was pretty much set in stone for a BIG widespread outbreak.

im guessing with what your refering to jpwx would be something extraordinary rare but umm yeah that is pretty frightening to think about im just glad those two systems i mentioned again while not good in march and april sweeped the moisture far out into the gulf we would have a march 31st 2023 type ordeal soo yeah thats pretty scary but thankfully not the extent to what reed timmer was saying

sorry i just thought that would be very ominous to think or talk about but i hope im not venting or anything ill just be honest and say unimaginable so to say ill never forget what people would say leading up to that one event in march with matthew cappucci tennessee valley weather stuff like that edit: but i will add this at least and say that it was the right call to say that given the utter seriousness of the situation

Yeah. That March event got me very concerned. I made the statement to my weather text chat group that this is the most worried/scared I've been about an outbreak since 4/27. The cloud cover and widespread storm activity that day in March absolutely saved us from a legit tornado outbreak. And folks that know me know that I don't bring up 4/27 lightly.
