Severe Weather 2025

Get ready for the boring weather to kick in soon . Hopefully we can score one more event that lis worth chasing around here in mid south ….
I'm working on that..... LOL! Reading the SPC Day 4-8 discussion this morning, it definitely looks like mid thru late next week could get interesting.

Definetly a very active start for the south but tapered off here after early April. I still enjoy armchair chasing the plains but I do agree, once April passes around here it’s back to garden variety storms
Interested to see what our totals look like as we go deeper into the year. So far we're at the very upper end for tornado count YTD, but y'all know the drill, it can easily drop way below average if you have a quiet summer and fall. 3/14-15 remains the defining outbreak of the season in terms of quantity.

lol you can tell which year is 2011, just absolutely bananas that jump it takes right in April

Also noteworthy mention the Mid-South region is getting into that time of year where you get more MCS/MCC (Mesoscale Convective Systems/Mesoscale Convective Complexes) that can produce tornadoes even though both are more widespread damaging wind driven.

Since today's threat looks like it could be significant, we need a different thread for it rather than clog up this one. Would you guys rather have a separate thread for today's event or add to the 4/28-4/29 thread?
I have my doubts that it would be long enough to really justify its own thread, and since the general gist of things has been to tack on an extra day if things are close together synoptically and chronologically, I would advocate for amending the 28/29 thread to include today.

Not sure if anyone shared it already or if jt is ok to share here, but 11 years ago yesterday and today marked a historic flash flooding event across the Alabama and far western Florida Gulf Coasts. Ironically, this was one of the cases in which convection across the Gulf Coast prevented moisture from moving northwards into parts of the SE and contributing to severe weather. This came on the heels of a slow-moving cold front that had sparked severe weather (including a high risk on 4/28) across the southeast.

It was 2014 if I remember right?

A few days of low-end severe threats in store from the southern Plains into the Southeast and up into parts of the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Beyond that, nothing super specific on the horizon.

Really have to wonder if we may have a quiet May on tap, and it’s one of those seasons where all the action was lined up at the beginning of spring, similar to 2012. One of Trey’s analog years for 2025 was 2006, it featured a very impressive Dixie outbreak, but a very quiet plains season.
