This is the second time tornado probabilities from the SPC have been either this high, or higher, in Alabama weather history. For geographical perspective guys, the 45% area does include Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Jasper, Hamilton, Cullman, and Decatur... to name a few areas.

What was the first?

wow, coaling alabama got hit very hard earlier. surely that was a tornado? it would take 150+ mph straight line winds to tear houses apart like that, right?

I know the structures you are talking about. A friend of mine lives right across the road from that damage path, so I have seen the structures alot. They are well built, but well built to 1970ish standards. That being said they are still fairly sturdy. I would not be shocked to see a survey conclude that a tornado touched down just west of coaling and stayed on the ground for about 30-35 miles. The path is consistent with a tornado moving ENE from west of coaling to near McCalla before apparently dissapating. If you took the interstate from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham right now, the damage would stop right around exit 106 to I459.

Looks like the latest RUC has possible supercells popping over MS and AL in the next hour or two.

the 45% tornado paramater... that indicates there is a 45% chance any location will be within.... how many miles ofa tornado? 25? that's incredible.

a 9 on twc's tor:con ... means 90% chance of a tornado within 50 miles. that's pretty insane.

Keep an eye on the showers forming west of Tuscaloosa. They could explode in intensity within the hour
