Hurricane Melissa

On Ryan Hall”s stream I saw people out walking in Kingston as Melissa is about to make landfall.
On this one, too. Not many, but a few. Private cars driving around, too. The Flat Bridge is already underwater, so I think that means the A1 is cut (though am not knowledgeable about Jamaica).

Since it's obvious. New latest category 5 landfall record. Last record was set n 1924 with the Cuba hurricane. That storm made landfall as a category 5 on October 19th
Melissa is making landfall as a category 101 years and 9 days later. On October 28th.

I see no reason why this won't keep intensifying up to landfall

So many posts in social media of tourists still there because flights were cancelled so early thinking the storm would be closer on Monday. Terrible outcomes I fear.
The loss of life is going to be tremendous. If it's below 1,000 I'll be shocked.
In fact, I'd be shocked if it was below 1,000 if it was about to hit the u.s.
I've worked numerous aftermaths of tornadoes and hurricanes. This will potentially be as bad as I've seen. And that includes Katrina that I worked.

The See Jamaica webcams seem to be struggling for me, but I was surprised to still see them up this morning, honestly. This storm is just absolutely ridiculous, and I am so worried about the people of Jamaica.

Also very worried about people in Haiti, as while Jamaica is taking the brunt of this, they at least have an actual government to spearhead recovery. But for right now, focusing on Jamaica. Truly hope folks have been able to find safe places to be for this storm. It's almost incomprehensible how powerful it is, and it is so close to landfall.
