Severe WX May 2019 Plains Severe Event

I'm on mobile so checking the survey toolkit page is impractical, but I suspect it would be put there first when surveys do begin there

Seems like high end damage is definitely in small pockets instead of a widespread area... which is good of course

1630Z upgrades today to a moderate risk, however the tornado probs remain 10% hatched. The hatched area was also moved slightly south out of the Oklahoma panhandle.

We have a SVR watch now. I guess we’ll see if anything gets going behind this first line of storms. Some decently favorable profiles for supercells up in PA.

Also, a tornado in the Texas panhandle from Monday has been rated high end EF3. Aerials show intense ground scarring. Mangum, and another Texas tor, was rated EF2. With an official EF3 rating (and clearly capable of more but hit very little) Monday's High produced a stronger tornado than the last three Highs. Still very underwhelming, but we did have some really intense tornadoes. Just not in the open warm sector as expected.

The loose barges up in OK struck the dam a little while ago (live briefly on TV even) and mostly sank, didn't breach the dam but still pushing up against them underwater

Makes sense considering the lack of serious injury and fatality. Particularly if the EF-3 damage is around commercial buildings that were unoccupied at the time of the tornado. There was good warning lead-time as well.

Thank goodness this thing didn't have a second gear and hit those residential areas at a much higher intensity.

I think there is a photo in the damage survey toolkit page but I can't access that on my phone

Hah, I was hoping you were able to pull it up. Yeah, I'll have to wait until I can pull up the survey toolkit on a normal computer.

We’re about to get hammered by this squall line. Hopefully it clears out by rush hour. Not much convection forming behind it for now.

Tornado warning for Columbia, MD. Well to my north. Looks like a pretty strong spin-up potentially.

And now we’re under a severe warning here. Looks like we could get some pretty nasty gusts from this, 65-70 mph. We had a tornado warning but it basically only lasted one scan and didn’t produce. Still, you don’t like to see “over the US Capitol” as a location for a tornado warning...

10% sigtor extended slightly east on the latest outlook, otherwise no changes. Seems like a decent chase day, the Eastern Texas Panhandle being a great place to chase. Hopefully whatever tornadoes we get are in the middle of nowhere.
